After graduating from law school in 1993, Michael began his career representing lenders and title companies in residential closings and foreclosures. That was a time in the lending industry where the role of an attorney was much more involved. This role included not only handling the title work and performing the closing but actually preparing the loan documents. The experience of handling these closings actually provided Michael with an extensive background in real estate, lending transactions and title insurance.

In early 1997, Michael moved to Florida and took a position with one of the top loan servicers in the country, Ocwen Federal Bank, FSB.    From that time until 2001, Michael held various positions within the company, the last being as Senior Manager of Default Servicing.   He was frequently called upon by senior executives to handle special projects including responding to inquiries by the Office of Thrift Supervision.   Among some of his many accomplishments were the establishment of a title resolution department (which was the first of its kind amongst the servicing industry); the creation of a litigation and title problem tracking system; and the establishment of a department to process in-house legal workout documents requested on behalf of loss mitigation specialists for borrowers.

In 2001, Michael recognizing an opportunity to be one of the few attorneys who has been on both sides of the servicing industry left Ocwen and went back into practice with a Florida foreclosure firm.

In 2003, Michael and Brian Rosaler left their respective firms and established the Law Offices of Popkin & Rosaler, PA.

In addition to his currently role as Senior Partner in the firm, Michael also acts as a consultant for  Fidelity National Default Solutions and other entities within the industry.
